The human leukocyte antigen HLA-B27 is a class 1 antigen of the major histocompatibility complex and is strongly associated with ankylosing spondylitis (AS).

HLA-B27 (an abbreviation for "Human Leukocyte Antigen B27") or HLA-B*27 (according to the most recent nomenclature) is one of the HLA class I surface molecules encoded in the B locus of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) on the short arm of chromosome 6 (Fig. 1).
